As the city continues to witness a surge in COVID-19 cases, the Delhi police have also seen a spike in infections in the force.
A total of 8,048 personnel have tested positive since the pandemic began.
The recovery rate, however, is impressive, as 7,706 personnel have recovered and resumed their duty. “We have lost 36 men in the fight against COVID-19. The policemen who died were carrying out their responsibilities during the fight to contain the pandemic,” said a senior police officer.
The officer added that around 36 personnel are either undergoing treatment at hospital or are under home quarantine.

New Delhi: Varun Hiremath, a 28-year-old journalist accused of rape, sexual assault and confinement by a 22-year-old woman, was granted interim protection from arrest on Friday by Delhi high court provided he joins the investigation when the police direct him to do so. Though no timeframe has been set for Hiremath, who is currently absconding, to present himself before the police, the court said it would take up the matter again on April 16.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Surinder Jeet Kaur lost her husband to COVID-19 in June last year.
On March 8, International Women’s Day, she will be honoured for her work during the pandemic. Ms. Kaur is among 21 women officials who will be honoured by the Commissioner of Police S.N. Shrivastava for their work.
