Police: 1 dead after Interstate 95 collision near Hardeeville in Jasper County

One person has died after a two-car accident Monday morning on Interstate 95 near Hardeeville, police said. Hardeeville Police Chief Sam Woodward said a call about the accident near Exit 5 came in around 11:34 a.m. He said a vehicle had been traveling south, crossed over the median and struck a pickup truck that had been traveling north head-on. Woodward said the passenger in the first vehicle died. The driver was transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah for treatment. The two people who had been traveling in the truck had been injured, but not seriously, and they were not transported to the hospital, he said.

Three May River High School students have been charged with spray-painting racial slurs and swastikas at a Hardeeville hotel, police said this week. Three juveniles were charged with burglary second degree and malicious injury to property on Feb. 9, Hardeeville Police Chief Sam Woodward said. The juveniles did a lot of spray-painting and used racial slurs. We do not know why they chose this location. The hotel was under construction when this happened and there was about $4,000 in damages done to the property.
