Mail theft case leads to months-long investigation, high-speed pursuit

Two men who reportedly led police on pursuits as they tried to evade arrest in separate incidents including one that started with stolen mail have been charged with felonies.
In one case, what became a four-month investigation began in late December with mail theft in the Santa Rosa Valley, the Ventura County Sheriff s Office reported. Detectives from the agency s Moorpark station looked into several cases of mail getting stolen from residents. Two additional mail thefts gave authorities a lead: a man in his 40s driving an older-model black Jaguar sedan.

Authorities in Simi Valley are continuing to look for a car and a suspect after a carjacking turned violent this week.
The incident unfolded shortly after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1800 block of Springgate Lane when a resident leaving his home saw a man inside his car, according to the Simi Valley Police Department. A struggle followed when the victim tried to make contact with the unfamiliar man.
As the victim leaned in the driver s door, the suspect reportedly drove forward to flee the scene, briefly dragging the victim, according to police. The victim fell to the ground and a car tire ran over his leg, injuring one ankle, officials said. The victim was treated at a hospital.
