Assam House Passes Bill to Create Autonomous Council for Bodo-Kachari Community
FOLLOW US ON: The Assam assembly on Wednesday unanimously passed a Bill for creating an autonomous council for the Bodo-Kachari community living outside the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) comprising four districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri.
Welfare of Plain Tribes and Backward Classes Minister Chandan Brahma moved The Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council Bill, 2020 in the assembly and the House passed it after a brief discussion.
He said that the proposed Council will cover the Bodo-Kachari community living in villages outside the BTR which is governed by the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

GUWAHATI: The Government of Assam has introduced the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council Bill-2020 . Minister for the Welfare of Plain Tribes & Backward Classes (WPT&BC), Chandan Brahma placed the Bill on the first day of the winter session in the Assam Assembly on Monday. Moreover, under the The Assam Official Language (Amendment) Bill, 2020 , step has been taken to make the Bodo language an associate official language across the State. This Bill was placed in the House by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary.

The three-day winter session of the Assam Assembly commenced on Monday, following Covid-19 protocols. Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he will introduce a bill to repeal provincialisation of Madrassas. Today I shall introduce a Bill to repeal Provincialisation of Madrassa. Once the Bill is passed, the practice of running Madrassa by the Government in Assam will come to an end, a practice which was started by Muslim League govt in pre-Independence Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.
