Shades of Blue is about finding and experiencing a connection with nature. It’s about Wara Wayinnga, a dune system that is special part of the Kaurna coastline that is still home to a plethora of native flora and fauna. Atop the system of dunes one is surrounded by various shades of blue from the ocean, sky, and Adelaide hills.
“The current climate with the pandemic and lots of isolation and staying at home has forced me, and I would say a lot of people, to seek connection with nature more than we normally would. Because connecting with nature is really good for our mental health and our physical health. So for me, this was going down to the beach and walking, experiencing the sound and sensations of nature, and quite near my home is a very special reserve - the Tennyson Dunes - Wara Wayinnga.”

Ensemble Offspring perform Of Birds and Stars by Yuwaalaraay composer Nardi Simpson. Of Stars and Birds was written after an invitation to contribute to Ensemble Offspring s birdsong collection. As a new composer in the earliest development stages of my craft, I worried how my work would stand alongside the pieces of experienced, accomplished composers who had already contributed to this series. As an Aboriginal musician with limited music theory, I also worried if I could create something of a standard suitable for the ensemble and its project partners.

CHARLESTON The Public Service Commission of West Virginia has authorized Appalachian Power Company and Wheeling Power Company to use approximately $13 million of the remaining Fresh Start Funds to provide assistance with paying electric bills for residential customers suffering from severe financial problems due to the COVID-19.
In 2018, the Commission ordered utilities operating in the state to investigate the financial impacts resulting from the 2017 Federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. APCo/WPCo earmarked $15 million of those savings to establish the Fresh Start Fund to provide financial assistance for the electric bills of low-income West Virginia residential customers.

In our instance, the trigger was a relic of the past. Specifically, an historical object made at a time of great significance for Australia: a square piano built around 1770, housed in the keyboard archives of the School of Music at ANU.
Its place of manufacture was Alsace in western Europe, a small body of land that has at times been claimed by Germany, at other times by France. The disputed nature of the territory serves as an ironic parallel to our project.
