New Canaan Library is pleased to introduce “The Listening Space,” a new series offering programs and workshops aimed at building greater understanding and lessening polarization. The first program in the series will be offered by New Canaan’s Community Mindfulness Project (CMP), presenting a two-part workshop “Mindful Listening and Speaking” via live Zoom webinar. This is CMP’s most popular workshop for a reason!

An 11-member working committee with 1913 library preservationists and library representatives came together, facilitated by Selectman Kathleen Corbet, to find common ground.
The working committee was formed after Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman John Goodwin said at a meeting in April that he would like to see library officials and preservationists “be flexible” and discuss the future of the 1913 library amiably. Goodwin was responding to hundreds of letters, thousands of signatures on petitions and disagreements among commissioners expressing strong feelings on both sides of the controversial

Penguins have a fossil record that extends 61 million years, and fossil discoveries throughout the southern hemisphere have revealed new species, including giant penguins and spear-billed penguins. Dr. Ksepka ‘s exciting lecture will explore the fossil record of penguins and the processes employed to examine their evolution, including CT scanning and SEM (scanning electron microscopy) analysis.
