New Canaan Library is pleased to announce that Pulitzer Prize finalist Russell Banks will be speaking about his latest release, Foregone, on Wednesday, April 21 at 7 PM EST via live videoconference. Russell Banks, an acclaimed literary novelist whose books have been translated into more than 20 languages, will introduce Foregone, a searing novel about memory, abandonment, and betrayal. At the center of Foregone is famed, Canadian American documentary filmmaker Leonard Fife, one of sixty thousand draft evaders and deserters who fled to Canada to avoid serving in Vietnam. Fife, now in his late seventies, is dying of cancer in Montreal and has agreed to a final interview in which he is determined to bare all his secrets at last. Russell Banks gives us a daring and resonant work about the scope of one man’s mysterious life, revealed through the fragments of his recovered past.

New Canaan Library invites the community to meet and hear from the award-winning architects of Centerbrook, who will share their knowledge of the global resurgence in library design, providing inspiration and context for the Library’s new building plans. Lead architects Jim Childress and Mark Herter will share images and impressions from around the world that illustrate the way libraries have evolved in use and function.
