FALL RIVER Bishop Edgar da Cunha blessed the new Laudato Si Community Garden on the grounds of St. Mary s Cathedral on Tuesday.
The garden was established to bring the beauty of nature into the heart of the city, and to raise produce to help those who are experiencing food insecurity that the church serves through its Pope Francis Outreach Center.
Students at Saint Stanislaus School are also involved in the care and planting of the garden while learning about the environment and food and health-related issues. It also gives the youngsters a chance to get their hands dirty and plant in the garden.
Children celebrate their First Communion at Somerset s St. John of God

SOMERSET For generations, May has been a time for First Communions, devotions to Mary and other traditions in the Catholic church. As the area emerges from the pandemic, COVID has changed but not eliminated these and other festivities.
At St. John of God Church in Somerset, 28 children received the Eucharist for the first time on May 2. In order to accommodate families while ensure social distancing, two Masses were held, at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
“This is another joyous occasion of celebration for the parish of St. John of God continuing to live parish life as normal as possible following safety protocols to prevent the spread of COVID,” said the Rev. Jason Brilhante, parish administrator.

Another Monday has rolled around with just a couple of changes. We are now on daylight savings time and it is so pleasant to still have sun shining at 7 pm. However, the extreme drop in temperature has lessened our desire to venture outside to enjoy the sun. So once more we must don the warm coats, hats, gloves, and scarves to keep warm. But we are still getting promises of a big warm up by the end of the week.
And a belated Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all who are Irish or wish they were. If you celebrate, please stay safe. By the way, does anyone know where all the snakes St. Patrick kicked out of Ireland went?
