Supreme Court to consider comedian Munawar Faruqui’s bail Plea tomorrow

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will consider tomorrow the petition filed by comedian Munawar Faruqui challenging the Madhya Pradesh High Court order which denied him bail in a case for alleged hurting of religious sentiments.
A bench comprising Justices RF Nariman and BR Gavai will consider the special leave petition filed against the order passed by the High Court on January 28.
Apart from the SLP challenging the HC order, Munawar Faruqui has also filed a writ petition against the MP police FIR. Both these petitions will be jointly considered by a bench headed by Justice RF Nariman tomorrow.

New Delhi, Feb 4 : The Supreme Court on Friday will hear a plea by comedian Munawar Faruqui against the Madhya Pradesh High Court order, refusing to grant him bail in a case where he allegedly hurt religious sentiments.
A bench comprising Justices Rohinton Fali Nariman and B.R. Gavai will consider the appeal filed by Faruqui challenging the high court s January 28 order.
The high court had observed that after taking into consideration the material seized and the statements of the witnesses along with the on-going investigation in the matter, no case is made out for grant of bail.
The Supreme Court will on Friday hear the plea filed by stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui, challenging the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s January 28 order denying him bail, reported
Live Law. The comedian is accused of insulting Hindu deities during a show.
Faruqui has also filed a writ petition against the Madhya Pradesh Police’s first information report. Both these petitions will be jointly considered by a bench of Justices RF Nariman and BR Gavai.
Faruqui has been in jail since January 1 for his alleged comments, even though the police have said there was no electronic evidence and that the complaint was filed based on hearsay.
