INDORE: Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui and four others were arrested in Indore on Friday night for allegedly making indecent remarks at Hindu deities, the Godhra tragedy and Union home minister Amit Shah during a show at a café in the popular Chhappan Dukan area.
Munawar and others were produced before a court on Saturday and sent to jail for 15 days. There were rumours of a crowd attacking them after a video went viral, showing a couple of men beating a youngster who is sandwiched between two cops on a motorcycle. Police denied any of the suspects were beaten, and said the youth in the video is a “friend of the accused”.

Indore: A stand-up comedian and four others were arrested on charges of passing indecent remarks against Hindu deities and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a show in Indore, according to a police official.
Police said the comedy programme was held at a cafe in 56 Dukan area of the city on Friday.
The complaint in this regard was filed by Eklavya Singh Gaur (36), son of local BJP MLA Malini Laxman Singh Gaur, based on which comedian Munawar Faruqui and four others were arrested, police said on Saturday.
