Comedian among 5 held for remarks on deities

Munawar Faruqui, a stand-up comedian from Gujarat, was on Saturday arrested along with four others after the son of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA filed a complaint accusing them of passing “indecent remarks about Hindu deities and Union Home Minister Amit Shah” during a show here.
A local court rejected their bail pleas and sent them to judicial custody.
The comedy show was held at a cafe here on Friday, the police said.
Eklavya Singh Gaur, 36, son of local BJP MLA Malini Laxman Singh Gaur, had filed a complaint about the show.

Indore, Jan 2: A stand-up comedian and four others were arrested on charge of passing remarks against Hindu deities and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a show at Indore in Madhya Pradesh, a police official said on Saturday.
Police said the comedy show was held at a cafe in 56 Dukan area in the city on Friday.
The complaint in this regard was filed by Eklavya Singh Gaur (36), son of local BJP MLA Malini Laxman Singh Gaur, based on which comedian Munawar Faruqui and four others were arrested, police said.

The Madhya Pradesh police on Friday (1 January) arrested five standup comedians for allegedly insulting Hindu gods and goddesses in Indore, reports
Hindustan Times.
The arrested comedians include Munawar Faruqui, Edvin Anthony, Prakhar Vyas, Priyam Vyas and Nalin Yadav.
They were arrested after a Hindu group filed an FIR against them, accusing the comedians of âindecent and disgracefulâ remarks against Hindu Gods, Goddesses and customs.
The comedians allegedly also made remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
According to the report, the Hindu Rakshak Sanstha members entered a cafe in Indore, where the comedians were performing at a New Yearâs event, and created a ruckus.

Some media reports said that the stand-up comedian was also thrashed by the workers of Hind Rakshak during the ruckus in the cafe.
