The body of a woman was found inside a San Marcos home Tuesday night after a critically injured man who lit himself on fire was discovered inside a car in Escondido, a sheriff’s homicide lieutenant said.
Escondido police responded to a report of a car on fire on Foothill View Place near Foothill View Way just after 6:30 p.m. and firefighters found a badly burned man inside the vehicle.
He was transported to the regional burn center at UCSD Medical Center and was reported to be in grave condition.
Statements taken from the scene of the car fire led police and sheriff’s deputies to check on the woman at the home on El Toro Lane near Borden Road, about a half-mile away, said sheriff’s Lt. Thomas Seiver.

SAN MARCOS
An aggressive response by fire crews stopped the spread of a fast-moving vegetation fire in San Marcos on Thursday afternoon, after it charred 40 acres and kicked up a huge plume of smoke that could be seen for miles.
The fire was first reported around 1 p.m. in brush on the grounds of Palomar College and had reached 40 acres by 1:45 p.m. It ran up a hill to the east, but within a half-hour crews had stopped the growth and quelled the threat to nearby homes.
