Islamabad says that the drills aim to promote regional cooperation and stability and greater interoperability among participants in the Indian Ocean region. A retired naval commodore, R Seshadri Vasan, a former Indian Navy officer and regional commander at the Indian Coast Guard, says that Delhi cannot overlook the “geopolitical significance” of the 46-nation ‘Aman’ naval drills currently taking place off the coast of Pakistan in the northern Arabian Sea.
