End the drama right now : Tense exchange during Greenville school board meeting over fall plans Ariel Gilreath, Greenville News © Mike Ellis The School District of Greenville County A Greenville County school board member called on the district to announce its plans for the fall 2021-22 school year in a tense exchange with the superintendent during a board meeting Tuesday.  The school district, which is the largest in South Carolina, has yet to announce if students will attend schools in-person and full-time next year. Currently, about one-third of the estimated 74,000 students in the district are virtual because of COVID-19. The elementary and middle school students who opted for in-person learning are attending full-time, while high school students attend between three and four days a week on a 75% in-person attendance plan.

Department of Education (SCDE) announced that it will provide $84,264,890 in additional federal Coronavirus Relief Fund (CRF) funding to all public schools districts and special schools to support reopening efforts.  The funding can be used for four specific purposes, including safety measures and personal protective equipment, hiring of school nurses, hiring of staff to provide one-on-one instruction and support services for struggling students, and technology equipment to support online learning.
