Two weeks after being seriously injured by a Molotov cocktail on April 16, Ste. Genevieve police officer Pete Unverferth is slowly recovering.
“He’s getting a little bit better every day,” police chief Eric Bennett said last Friday. “It’s going to take quite a while for him to get back to normal, but he says he’s adjusting to life at home. It’s just taking it day by day.”
Bennett said the family has been overwhelmed by the support he has gotten.
Unverferth was brought from a St. Louis hospital to his Perry County home, with a parade of emergency vehicles, including Ste. Genevieve Police, Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol, circling through downtown Ste. Genevieve on its way.

Two distinct cheers took place after completion of the boys’ 1,600-meter relay on a warm Friday evening at Dragon Field.
Valle Catholic celebrated winning the relay over Farmington with a stout time of 3 minutes, 33.90 seconds with less than three seconds separating the squads.
Then Farmington’s athletes showed exuberance after learning they scored more points than Valle Catholic to win the overall team title at the Mineral Area Activities Association conference meet.
Still, the Class 1 Warriors showed they could complete with a school from a much larger enrollment size in Farmington.
