Burnham-On-Sea’s Ritz Social Club has announced the postponement of a live music gig following the Government’s extension of the Covid restrictions.
The Government had hoped to “remove all legal limits on social contact” from 21st June, but that’s been put back until 19th July, although a review will take place in two weeks.
Burnham’s Ritz Social Club in Victoria Street had been scheduled to hold it first first live gig of the year featuring popular group Six Machine during early July, however the event has been delayed until the autumn due to the restrictions. Tickets had sold out in just 24 hours.
Burnham-On-Sea’s cinema, pubs and cafes are re-opening today (Monday) when the lockdown restrictions ease.
The Government’s latest phase of the easing will see many businesses opening for the first time since Christmas.
Burnham’s Ritz Cinema owner Pat Scott told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are very relieved to be able to re-open and to be seeing lots of demand for tickets. We have some great films this week, including Oscar-winning
Nomadland, blockbuster
Peter Rabbit 2 and
Mortal Kombat.”
“While we can only sell around 40-50% of seats in our screens due to social distancing restrictions, everyone here is excited to be back open again and welcoming customers. Local community support is really wonderful.”
MORE than £4,000 has been raised for a Burnham-on-Sea hospital charity, after 130 people took part in a sponsored beach walk last Saturday. The walkers set off - at staggered times to prevent large gatherings - towards one of three destinations: Burnham lighthouse, Berrow beach or Brean Down. They then returned Burnham s Ritz Social Club, for refreshments and certificates of achievement, with all funds raised going to the Friends of Burnham-on-Sea War Memorial Hospital. The Friends is a charitable foundation which strives to improve the lives of everyone who needs help within the community. Event organiser Mike Barsby told that
Weekly News that it had been an amazing response , and they were on target to raise £5,000.
Over 120 local people set to take part in Burnham-On-Sea beach walk for hospital
Around 120 local people are signed up to take part in a Sponsored Walk this Saturday (April 24th) to support the Friends of Burnham-On-Sea Memorial hospital.
Around 50 people will be walking the full distance to Brean and back while others will be walking to Berrow.
By popular demand, the organisers say that there is now also the option for those with young children or people that just don’t fancy the longer routes of taking a shorter walk to the lighthouse on the beach.
Organiser Mike Barsby adds: “All walkers will start and finish from the check-in gazebo outside Burnham’s Ritz Social Club where free refreshments will be available with the compliments of The Ritz. Certificates of achievement will be given to everyone on their return.”
