By year’s end, more than $1.3 million had been spent from the accounts.
The next year, $89,066 moved through an account for water in which $700 had been budgeted originally.
And an account for contingencies originally had $143,500 budgeted, which was then reduced to $6,469, before a total of $325,150 was eventually expended.
Those examples were among a handful of “significant consistent account deficits” identified in a 29-page review of the school district’s financial practices released Wednesday.

STRATFORD Schools Superintendent Janet Robinson has asked Board of Education members to approve a $4.7 million budget increase for the 2021-22 school year.
Even with that increase, the spending plan would eliminate a dozen positions town-wide to save $1,657,343 in salaries and benefits though it’s not clear how many layoffs, if any, would result.
“We hope they’ll be from attrition,” Robinson said. “We assume we’re going to have retirees that will cover that amount.”
