Mangaluru, Jul 2: In the light of an increased drone activity near the international border of India with Pakistan, security at the airports, ports, railway stations etc has been kept on high alert. In order to be able to effectively handle drone attack threats, the concerned are contemplating to provide Israeli technology-based protective mechanisms at Mangaluru airport.
Primary discussions have been held between the city police and the officials of the ministry of civil aviation on this issue. It may be recalled that a toy modelled after a drone had landed near the runway of the local airport sometime back, even though drones are not allowed to be operated in the vicinity of the airport.

NOIDA: The Jewar international airport project is fast gaining momentum. The masterplan for the airport has been approved by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), officials have said. A final security clearance from the Bureau of Civil Aviation (BCA) is all that’s required now to start construction at the site.
Officials of Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), the UP government’s special purpose vehicle for the project, said on the masterplan was sent to AAI to ensure that all technical aspects were being complied with. “We have now received the approval as well as some suggestions from AAI. They have reviewed the project masterplan,” said Arunvir Singh, chief executive officer of NIAL.

GREATER NOIDA: The Zurich AG subsidiary that will develop Noida International Airport in Jewar has finally initiated the process of signing a couple of mandatory agreements with the Union civil aviation ministry and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The agreements are likely to be inked in the last week of February after the pending hurdles are cleared by the UP government, TOI has learnt.
Officials said that AAI will provide licence to Zurich AG subsidiary Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) only after the signing of communication, navigation and surveillance/air traffic management (CNS/ATM) agreement. On the other hand, the civil aviation ministry is required to give an in-principle nod to YIAPL. The concessionaire pact for the project was signed between Zurich AG and UP in October last year.

Aviation regulator, Bureau of Civil Aviation, will set a fresh deadline for airport operators in the country to install anti-drone systems in airports, after none of the operators implemented the system before January 31, the deadline earlier set.
“We will shortly notify fresh deadline for metro airports. Operators have informed us that the current systems to counter drones available in the market are too expensive,” said Director General, Bureau of Civil Aviation, M.S. Ganapathy. Besides prohibitive cost, the operators have informed that they were unable to implement the counter drone systems due to the pandemic.
