Roxbury s 1929 Police Chief Honored for Dying in Line of Duty

May 15, 2021 at 8:00 AM ROXBURY, NJ A Roxbury police chief who was killed in a 1929 motorcycle accident is among the law enforcement officers honored this week for losing their lives in the line of duty. On the rainy night of April 11, 1929, former Roxbury Police Chief Fred Plumstead died while riding his town-issued 1927 Harley-Davidson police cycle home from a court appearance in Newark, according to his obituary. Plumstead, a 29-year-old Kenvil resident and father of five young daughters, couldn’t stop in time to avoid a truck stopped on a road in Mine Hill while its operator worked on its lights, said the obituary.

(WWNY) - Fort Drum officials say Corporal Hayden Harris, a 20-year-old soldier who went missing between Thursday and Friday, has been found dead. U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command says foul play is suspected. In a release, post officials did not say where Harris’ body was discovered, but indicated that an investigation is ongoing. That investigation includes the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Sussex County, NJ Prosecutor’s Office, and the Byram Township, NJ Police Department, along with federal investigators.
