There s the adage of when you re hot, you re hot , and that is just exactly what Go Go George is after having won the $8,400 GLADA trot again at Northfield Park. With Larry Ferrari at the controls on Saturday (May 22), they stopped the clock at 1:56.1 for the veteran trotter s fourth win in his last six starts.
Understandably sent as the favourite from post 2 in the nine-horse field, Ferrari wasted little time sending George to the lead from the two-hole when the starter said “go” and they reached the first stanza in :28.3. When Floyd Rhodes moved Back Door Man off the pylons to challenge for the lead, the two trotters raced side-by-side past the half in :59, and they were noses apart when they trotted by the three quarters in 1:28.
Larry Ferrari took no prisoners and sent Go Go George down the road in progress to a 1:56.4 victory in the Great Lakes Amateur Drivers Association (GLADA) Trot on Saturday (May 15) at Northfield Park. It marked the second-consecutive week that Ferrari and Go Go George were victorious in the series.
After starting from the two-hole Ferrari kept Rockefella Lindy and driver Manny Miller on the limb which forced the favourite Quadrangle to go three-deep as the field headed for the three-quarters.
After Quadrangle looped Rockefella Lindy Go Go George opened two-and-a-half lengths on the field, and he needed every inch as his strides began to shorten when he neared the finish line. At the wire, Go Go George was a neck winner over Rockefella Lindy. Third place went to Crime Fighter, in rein to Eddie Miller.
Tempus Seelster and Enzio captured their respective feature events at Pompano Park on Tuesday (April 27) while Dave Ingraham hot a grand slam as he drove four winners on the card.
Tempus Seelster and Ingraham teamed to take the $13,000 Open Mare Pace, using a :27.4 final quarter to edge by the pacesetting favourite Prairie Westerngal in the final strides to score by three-quarter lengths in 1:53.1. Beach Journey, in the garden spot all the way, finished third a length away, while Roll With Angel was fourth after a ground-saving journey and Tale Abit Of Life rallied from last turning for home to pick up the nickel.
Larry Ferrari got all the marbles on Saturday (April 24) when he won the in the Great Lakes Amateur Drivers Association (GLADA) Series Trot at Northfield Park with Go Go George. Together, they made every pole a winning one in progress to a 1:57.4 win over eight others.
Sent as the second choice from the four-hole in the nine-horse field, Ferrari took advantage of a miscue at the start by favoured Warrior Way and gunned his charge to the lead before a :29.3 first quarter.
With Go Go George on the engine, Ferrari got away with another :29-and-a-piece quarter, and when they rounded the clubhouse turn the second time Ferrari put the pedal to the metal. Go Go George opened daylight on his competitors as they trotted by three-quarters in 1:28.2. Well in command as they headed for home, Ferrari s trotter was strong all the way to the wire.
Casies Believer, brilliantly handled by Joe Chindano, Jr., split horses in deep stretch to capture Pompano Park’s $11,000 Open for Mares on Tuesday (April 20), stopping the timer in 1:53.
The six-year-old daughter of Betterthancheddar eked the narrow win by stalking leader Prairie Westerngal throughout the mile from the garden spot, leaving the cozy pocket when they straightened for the drive home. The pocket popper held off a determined Tempus Seelster by a length with Prairie Westerngal another half length away. Roll With Angel finished fourth while Evas Sports Czech picked up the final award in the classy sextet.
As usual, it was Prairie Westerngal leaving with her sharp early foot, opening enough daylight to allow Casies Believer to find the spot in the garden right behind. Through an opening panel of :27.4, positions remained virtually unchanged through the :57.3 half with only Tempus Seelster gaining a spot from fifth into fourth.
