Larry Ferrari took no prisoners and sent Go Go George down the road in progress to a 1:56.4 victory in the Great Lakes Amateur Drivers Association (GLADA) Trot on Saturday (May 15) at Northfield Park. It marked the second-consecutive week that Ferrari and Go Go George were victorious in the series.
After starting from the two-hole Ferrari kept Rockefella Lindy and driver Manny Miller on the limb which forced the favourite Quadrangle to go three-deep as the field headed for the three-quarters.
After Quadrangle looped Rockefella Lindy Go Go George opened two-and-a-half lengths on the field, and he needed every inch as his strides began to shorten when he neared the finish line. At the wire, Go Go George was a neck winner over Rockefella Lindy. Third place went to Crime Fighter, in rein to Eddie Miller.
After a contest last night at Scioto Downs, members of GLADA traveled to Northfield Park for two trotting divisions in the year-long series. And when the judges posted the official signs, Don Sherman and Larry Ferrari each emerged victorious in the respective $7,800 splits.
Sherman won with Palmers Pride in 1:56.4 in the first division while Larry Ferrari copped the second one behind So Wishful in 1:57.1.
In his split, Sherman gunned Palmers Pride to the lead from the four-hole and the veteran trotter needed a :27.4 first quarter to take command. But once on top, pressure continued as Joggintothebank took up the chase. They raced one-two to three-quarters but Palmers Pride was game and rebuffed the challenge.
Eddie Miller and Lonnie Graber won their respective $7,800 trotting events hosted by the Great Lakes Amateur Drivers Association on Saturday night (May 1) at MGM Northfield Park.
In the first split, Miller and Cowboy Country hugged the pylons from their back-row start to land in fifth while Curleys Son (Marion Chupp) and Shake It Off Lindy (Don Sherman) sparred for the lead through a :28 first quarter. At the halfway point, Curleys Son enjoyed a three-length lead, but had to brace for Cowboy Country, who angled out to challenge. Still, Curleys Son showed the way by the :57.4 half and 1:27.4 third stanza. But, when the field rounded the final turn, Cowboy Country asserted himself and went on to a 1-1/4-length win in 1:58.1 Curleys Son was an easy second, and Starsaboveallerage who was parked the entire mile finished third for Steve Oldford.
