Close to 150,000 Covid-19 vaccinations given in Warrington

NEARLY two-thirds of people in Warrington have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, according to the latest figures. NHS data shows that 110,492 people had received a first vaccine jab by April 18 in the town, which calculates as 65 per cent of those aged 16 and over. Of those vaccinated, 80,871 were aged 50 and over – 98 per cent of the age group. It means 29,621 people aged between 16 to 49 have received a first dose of the vaccine. The good news comes on the back of 33,290 second booster jabs being administered, bringing the total vaccination number to 143,782 – well on the way to hitting the 150,000 mark in the near future.

Wolves to Rovers walk raises £23,000 for Great Sankey family

Three football fans have put their best foot forward walking 30 miles in a bid to help their friend who has been diagnosed with a brain tumour. Gaz Byrne and his brother Chris were joined by Danny Nixon on Saturday, April 17 as they walked from Warrington Wolves’ home ground, The Halliwell Jones Stadium, to Blackburn Rovers’ Ewood Park. The determined trio completed the challenge in honour of their friend Matty Latham, who has non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which is a cancer of the lymphatic system. The 35-year-old from Great Sankey is currently undergoing chemotherapy to treat the condition, which is in his brain and his liver, and will be unable to work for the next 12 months.
