Firefighters condemn recent spate of deliberate fires

FIREFIGHTERS in Warrington have slammed mindless idiots who are setting deliberate fires across the town. A number of incidents have been reported recently, with fire crews having been called out to prevent them from becoming more serious. The most recent blaze occurred yesterday evening, Wednesday, involving rubbish being set alight on Blackbrook Avenue in Padgate around 8.30pm. Crews spent 20 minutes making the scene safe, but this could have prevented them from attending a much more serious incident should one develop. Cheshire Police is investigating the fire, and anyone with any information should call 101 quoting IML 958308 or give details via cheshire.police.uk/ro/report

Great Sankey outdoor market to return to Woodlands pub

GREAT Sankey Market is returning after a successful launch at Christmas. Following the government s easing of lockdown restrictions, the pop-up artisan market with a focus on food and crafts made by independent traders will be back at The Woodlands pub in Liverpool Road on Saturday, April 17. There will also be arts, handmade gift ideas, craft alcohol, ceramics, jewellery, pet products, home decor items and candles and wax melts. The dog friendly outdoor event will then be monthly every third Saturday with free entry. There will be around 50 stalls. Great Sankey Market is hosted by Independent Street which champions and provides a platform for independent businesses and producers in the area.

Tommy and his granddad Peter, who used to make all his birthday cakes including Bob The Builder, The Incredible Hulk and a giant Amazon snake WHEN eight-year-old Tommy Weekes pledged to run 100km for charity last month his granddad Peter was at the forefront of his mind. The Widnes youngster wanted to raise as much money for Macmillan Cancer Care as possible to show how much he loved him and help the charity that was supporting his family. Tommy ran his last kilometre ahead of schedule on Sunday, March 28, and less than 24 hours later Peter sadly passed away, after a short battle with cancer.

Latest Warrington area by area coronavirus cases

By Heidi Summerfield The 7 areas of Warrington where coronavirus is almost wiped - and those where it is rising Coronavirus infection rates are steadily dropping across Warrington with only a handful of areas reporting a rise in cases. Callands and Old Hall together with Penketh and Cuerdley each saw six more cases over the past seven days than during the previous week with 12 cases being reported in Callands and Hall and nine in Penketh and Cuerdley. Hulme figures were up by seven cases with nine reported over the last week and Woolston and Central Warrington each had 12 cases. Eight areas of the town reported a drop in infection rates and seven areas have had fewer than three cases in the previous seven days.
