In honor of National Correctional Officers Week, Congressman Fred Keller (PA-12) today met with correctional officers and staff at USP Lewisburg to present a certificate of recognition and thank them for their continued service to the community.
Coinciding with Congressman Keller’s visit was a job fair at the penitentiary, hosted by the federal Bureau of Prisons. USP Lewisburg is currently seeking qualified applicants to serve as correctional officers and fill other positions. Keller was joined at the event by Shane Fausey, President of the National
Council of Prison Locals 33 and Andy Kline, President of USP Lewisburg’s Local 148 union.

ALPENA As a school resource officer, Alpena County Jail Administrator Christina Bednarski talked to kids who dreamed of becoming a doctor, a veterinarian, or a firefighter.
“I don’t think I’ve ever heard a kid say, ‘I want to be a corrections officer when I grow up, ” Bednarski said.
During National Correctional Officers Week, celebrated each year at the beginning of May, Bednarski reflected the role of the corrections officers at the Alpena County Jail.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff s Office celebrates National Correctional Officers Week, May 2 through May 8, 2021.
In 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation making the first full week of May a time to recognize the contributions of correctional officers to our nation.

He noted that the duties of these officers have become increasingly complex and demanding.
Reagan wrote I call upon officials of State and local governments and the people of the United States to observe this week with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
