Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports In a season where bright spots have been few and far between for them, the DePaul Blue Demons found another one Saturday night, picking up an 88-83 victory over the St. John’s Red Storm, snapping a five game losing streak and dealing a severe blow to St. John’s NCAA Tournament hopes. Big East leading scorer Julian Champagnie had a game-high 29 points. The issue, which has happened infrequently for St. John’s this year, was that they got crushed both in bench points and points in the paint. The Red Storm came into the game averaging 25 bench points per game, tops in the Big East. DePaul exploded for 49 points off the bench, 24 of which came from leading scorer Charlie Moore. Additionally, 58 of DePaul 88 points came in the paint, where the Red Storm had just 18 such points.

DePaul Blue Demons Softball Team Starts Season 3-2

Opening their 2021 season inside the warm confines of the Dome in Rosemont, the Blue Demons started with a big win. The Blue Demons went 3-2 over the weekend but unfortunately ended it with a tough loss. The DePaul started its season with a big 8-0 victory over Valparaiso on Friday afternoon. Gabby O Riley got DePaul on the scoreboard with a home run in the bottom of the first. In the second, a Tori Meyer double scored Brooke Johnson who had doubled. DePaul scored 5 in the fourth, starting with Meyer singling in Maranda Gutierrez. Pearl Barroso followed with a 3 run home run. After Skylor Hilger walked, Angela Scalzitti drove her in with a single, making it 7-0. Gutierrez homered in the 5th.

February 10, 2021 10:37 pm Playing for the first time since March 9, 2013, the Providence College men’s basketball team defeated the UConn Huskies, 70-59, on Wednesday, February 10 in Alumni Hall at Providence College. It marked the first game between the two long-time New England rivals as UConn rejoined the BIG EAST this season. With the win, the Friars moved to 10-10 overall and 6-8 in BIG EAST play. This marked the first win against the Huskies since February 28, 2012 when the Friars won 72-70 in Providence. Nate Watson (Portsmouth, Va.) and David Duke (Providence, R.I.) led the way in scoring for the Friars with 17 points each. Noah Horchler (Melbourne Beach, Fla.) led the team in rebounds with 10.
