Twin Cedars Boys Will Work On Defense During Break

The Twin Cedars Boys Basketball Squad will head into the break with a little bit of momentum after defeating Southeast Warren on Friday. The Sabers still have some work to do to get to where they want to be at the end of the season. Coach Blake McWilliams tells KRLS Sports one of the points of emphasis during the break will be better play on the defensive end. McWilliams: “We talked about that, I think we’ve been a little lazy on the defensive side of the floor. We need to be better at putting more pressure on the ball and getting some turnovers ourselves.”

Devin Arkema erupted for 30 points to lead the Twin Cedars Boys Basketball Squad to a 55-43 win over Southeast Warren last night, while the girls fell to the Warhawks 49-30. After a slow start that saw the Saber boys score just two points in the first eight minutes of the game, Twin Cedars grabbed the lead before halftime outscoring Southeast Warren 22-9 in the second quarter as Arkema scored 14 of his 30 points in the second frame. Coach Blake McWilliams told KRLS Sports, Arkema had his complete game on display last night. Twin Cedars placed three players in double figures to compliment Arkema as Kade Dunkin scored 11 points and Jace Nichols tallied ten. The girls could not muster enough offense to stay with Southeast Warren on Friday as the Sabers fell behind by double figures in the first half and could not get closer than 11 points after the break. Twin Cedars Hosts SE Warren To End Pre Christmas Schedule

The Twin Cedars Basketball Squads will host Southeast Warren tonight. The girls will play a Warhawks club that lost to Central Decatur by one on Tuesday. Southeast Warren has already played two Bluegrass Conference teams and have easy wins over both in Mormon Trail and Ankeny Christian. Meanwhile, the Saber boys will try to break a two game losing streak against a winless Southeast Warren who has lost each game by an average of 25 points. These games were originally scheduled in January, but were moved up when the Sabers had to postpone their games with Melcher-Dallas due to the Saints going to full online learning which required all activities to be paused. The girls game is set to get underway at 6:00.

Twin Cedars Drops Two At Moravia

It was a rough night for the Twin Cedars Basketball Squads in Moravia on Tuesday. The Saber girls fell 30-28 after trailing at the half 20-9. Coach Trent Verwers told KRLS Sports his team took the lead with two minutes remaining but could not sustain it. The boys fell 61-31 with Kade Dunkin scoring 12 points to lead the Sabers. Twin Cedars will play Southeast Warren on Friday night.

When Melcher-Dallas Will Return to Games

  As for when the next matchup for each winter sport, boys and girls basketball are scheduled to play their next doubleheader on January 5th at home against Seymour. The wrestlers that are participating with Southeast Warren are scheduled to be back in action on January 9, participating in the Gary Christensen Duals at Winterset.
