The bilingual program of Lalor North Primary School (LNPS), the only such state-run Greek educational environment in Victoria, has been hailed by many for the excellence of its 45-year program. It operated as a three-classroom environment until 2019, however the decision to create a two-classroom model has caused concern.
Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) Deputy Theo Markos has met with Lily D’Ambrosio, member for Mill Park, and Bronwyn Halfpenny, member for Thomastown, both of who agree that a three-model method would work best and stated an intent to meet with Victoria’s Education Minister James Merlino.
So far, the School leadership (Principal and Deputy Principal) have been unsympathetic towards the proposal for a three-model classroom and there is concern by parents that the historic program is being undermined rather than supported and valued by the school’s custodians.
