With the IMD issuing heavy rainfall alerts, district administration has directed the departments concerned to ensure that the drains, canals and waterbodies in flood-prone areas in the capital city are cleaned and cleared of obstructions within 72 hours.
Tuesday’s thunder showers had left many city areas waterlogged for hours.
The Major Irrigation Department has been directed to complete the cleaning of the Karamana and Killi rivers, the Thekkinikkara canal, Amayizhanjan canal, and Ulloor canal within 72 hours.
The Executive Engineer, Public Works Department, has been directed to clean the drains along the Attakulangara-Killipalam bypass road, Peroorkada-Mannamoola road, Gandhariyamman Kovil Road, Attakulangara-Thiruvallam Road, Kannamoola-Mulavana road, Manacaud-Perunelli road, and the Idappazhanji-Jagathy road.

28% test positivity rate and 10 more deaths recorded in the district
As many as 4,240 people on Sunday tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 from among 15,118 people who were subjected to COVID-19 testing during the last 24 hours, thereby registering a test positivity rate of 28% in the district.
With 2,632 people recovering from the illness, the number of active cases stood at 38,079. Among the fresh cases, the source of infection was unknown in 454 of them. Five healthcare workers were among those who were diagnosed with the infection.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : As the second wave of Covid continues to wreak havoc in the state, the homeless people, who are one of the most vulnerable to infection, are in the lurch. Efforts are yet to be made to shelter those living on the streets and provide them with the necessary facilities.The corporation and the district administration will take necessary steps to rehabilitate the homeless in the event of a prolonged lockdown.
“Earlier, the initiative to shelter the destitute was implemented since many of them were starving. If such a situation arises, we will shift them to shelters,” said Prakash S, health supervisor of the corporation. Last year, the city corporation had erected a makeshift tent at Putharikandam ground, East Fort, to shelter the destitute people. 2,389 people recover, TPR at 28.45% The district appeared poised to cross yet another milestone in daily COVID-19 caseload that went up by 3,969 on Thursday. Test positivity rate rose to 28.45% when 13,947 people were tested. While 2,389 people recovered from the illness, the active cases’ count stood at 32,758.
The source of the infection is unknown in 309 of the new cases. Five health care workers were among those who tested positive.
As many as 14 deaths were attributed to the disease, taking the district’s death toll to 1,075. The deceased include eight men, aged between 28 and 84, and six women, including one aged 85. The deaths occurred between May 2 and 4. The toll has gone up by 104 since April 30.
