Delay in sentencing convicted sex offender caught breaching order

By Advertiser Reporter MacHardie outside Swindon Crown Court A SEX offender spared jail in 2016 has been warned he faces a custodial sentence – after he was caught with child sex abuse images. Callum MacHardie, who had been downloading the illegal material since he was 12, was given a community order five years ago after a judge heard he was suitable for a three year sexual offender treatment programme. He now awaits sentence for similar offences; downloading indecent images of children and using a computer network capable of hiding his web activity from the authorities. MacHardie, 30, had been expected to be sentenced at Swindon Crown Court on Tuesday morning.

Traffic and development on the agenda in gateway seat St Andrews

And nobody knows that more than the residents of St Andrews. The huge and growing Tadpole farm development is in the ward and could be said to be responsible for its creation. Until 2012 St Andrews was just a part of the Blunsdon ward, which was one of the biggest in the borough, stretching from Swindon’s northern border with Wiltshire to the Ridgeway ward in the south. But because of the growth of the population in the past two decades, electoral authorities created a new ward, putting Blunsdon in with Highworth and making a one for the developments. That growth will be one of the issues affecting voters here. As more houses are built, there are concerns about how those residents will get about – traffic, parking, congestion – and how infrastructure is developed to cater for them.

Meet the candidates standing in Priory Vale

LOCAL ELECTIONS Clockwise from top left: Ian Edwards (Labour), Stephen Litchfield (Green), Elena Mari (Independent) and Jo Morris (Conservative) are standing in the Priory Vale ward on May 6 Priory Vale forms the boundary of Swindon with rural Wiltshire to the west, which is made by the River Ray as it runs north to the Thames.  On the other side of the ward, it’s much harder to see where the boundary with Haydon Wick might be. The housing developments which characterise both wards run into each other.  Like its neighbour the aerial view of Priory Vale bears the unmistakeable stamp of modern suburban housing developments – lots of short, curving cul-de-sacs coming off trunk roads.
