The villas of northern Italy may be an ocean away, but a compound for sale on Connecticut s shoreline brings their style closer to home.
Listed for $2.99 million, the compound on 146 Hamburg Road in Lyme was inspired by the style of northern Italy s 16th century villas designed by Palladio, the listing notes. But it didn t start out that way.
According to the listing, the home s original façade began as a 1710s farmhouse, but was redesigned and rebuilt over nine years. Inside the main house s 6,308 square feet of living space, there are two bedrooms, three full bathrooms and six fireplaces, the listing notes, as well as a painting gallery and sun room. The living room is two stories tall and was inspired by a dining hall at Yale University, according to the listing.
