The Marvel Cinematic Universe has already treated us to some of the most spectacular action movies of the past decade. Disney’s consistently respectful treatment of our childhood heroes, beautifully written scripts and almost faultless casting is a rare achievement in film franchises.
And after having left us emotionally drained, and red-eyed by a factor of 3,000 at the bittersweet conclusion of Phase 3 and the first Avengers story arc, things have been quiet in Midgard.

Sony and Disney Create Streaming Pact for SPIDER-MAN Titles

Just two years ago, Disney and Sony were seemingly on the outs in regards to Spider-Man. Well, things change fast in Hollywood. Just announced is the news that Disney has reached a huge movie licensing deal with Sony Pictures for the U.S. One that promises to bring Spider-Man and other Spidey-related Marvel properties to Disney+. This starts with Sony’s 2022 release slate. Theatrical releases from 2022 to 2026 will move to Disney after their runs on Netflix, which recently announced a large deal with Sony for streaming rights to their films.

Disney and Sony have just signed an expensive new deal which will give the Mouse House the rights to show Sony’s new theatrical releases from 2022-2026 in the United States across any Disney-owned streaming platform and network, including Disney+, Hulu, ABC, Freeform, FX, National Geographic, and Disney Channels. The five-year deal kicks in during the post-Pay 1 TV window…and if you’re wondering what exactly that means, and how it relates to a recent deal that Sony just signed with Netflix, read on and we’ll break it all down.
Before we get into the specifics of this new Disney Sony deal, here’s a quick explanation of release windows. Fans of the Marvel Universe already know that Disney+ is the place to go when it comes to streaming movies. However, there has been a Spider-Man-shaped piece of the jigsaw missing… until now.
Disney have announced that they have been working on an “unprecedented” deal with Sony which will allow the Spider-Man films to join the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Disney+ (except for The Incredible Hulk, which isn’t on Disney+ for rights reasons).
The details of such a massive deal are, unsurprisingly, pretty complicated but, put simply, it seems that Sam’s Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, the two Amazing Spider-Man movies, and Tom Holland’s Spidey films so far will become available to watch on Disney’s streaming platform. It also means that Holland’s upcoming Spider-Man flick, No Way Home, should be on Disney+ in the future.
