Wayne Gretzky has stepped down from his role with the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, effective immediately.
According to sources, Gretzky will join TNT as a hockey analyst next season. He had been heavily courted by the network and his good friend Charles Barkley, sources said.
The Hall of Famer and former Edmonton captain returned to the Oilers organization in 2016 as vice chairman. He worked as a close adviser to owner Daryl Katz and also has had a hand on the commercial side of the business with the team s parent company, Oilers Entertainment Group.

Less than 24 hours after they were eliminated from the playoffs, the Edmonton Oilers had the first front office departure of the offseason. And though it wasn’t the role with the most responsibilities vacated, it definitely was the Greatest One, with Vice Chairman and Oilers legend Wayne Gretzky announcing Tuesday afternoon that he had departed ways with the organization in order to enter the broadcast realm.
“With great appreciation, I wanted to let everyone know that I have decided to step away as Vice Chairman of the Edmonton Oilers effective today,” Gretzky said on Twitter.

According to Forbes’ 35th annual ranking of the world’s wealthiest people, released Wednesday, 9 out of the top 10 Canadian billionaires increased their wealth this year, even as the pandemic raged around them.
David Thomson, chairman of media company Thomson Reuters Corp., and family once again claimed the crown as Canada’s richest with US$41.8-billion net worth, up from US$31.6 billion last year. That makes Thomson the 33rd richest person in the world.
