State forestry attacking wildfire off Brock Road in North Pole from air and on ground

UPDATE 7:30 P.M. An aggressive aerial attack has helped tamp down an emerging wildfire off Brock Road in North Pole. Retardant-dropping air tankers and water bombing aircraft have pacified the upstart Brock Road Fire after it ballooned in size from one-half acre to an estimated 50 acres in two hours. There are now more than 70 firefighters on the ground laboring to secure a control line around the fire, which erupted just before 2:30 p.m. and put up a large smoke column visible from North Pole and Fairbanks. A person flying a drone in the area was the first to report the fire.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Alaska Division of Forestry is currently battling a 50-acre wildland fire in the area of North Pole, named the Brock Road Fire, that is believed to be human caused. The fire is located near Brock Road and Repp Road off of Badger Road. Brock Road is currently closed North of Repp Road and officials are asking everyone who doesn’t live in the area to stay clear.

According to Tim Mowry, Statewide Public Information Officer, Alaska Division of Forestry Wildland Fire Program, the order was initiated Tuesday at 9 a.m. due to potential increased wildfire dangers, “and what that means is all small and large scale permitted burning is suspended due to high wildfire danger and limited firefighting resources. That means basically no brush or debris burning, no use of burn barrels. You can still have a small campfire three feet in diameter or less. We really discourage that given these conditions.
