Kamas Valley History Group will host a mobile museum grand opening celebration on Memorial Day

While it awaits IRS approval to become an 501( c)(3) nonprofit, it plans to open its new mobile museum during an all-day celebration that will include a ribbon cutting, arts and crafts, old-time foot races and live music on Memorial Day, said the group’s secretary Kate Wynn. The program will be presented by Kamas Action, a group of community members that is leading projects for the revitalization of Kamas Valley, she said. “The ribbon cutting will start things off and be done under the flagpole at Kamas City Hall,” Wynn said.

The Reimagining School Safety and Students’ Well-Being Steering Committee will develop an improvement plan with timelines, financial implications and needs for the program, as well as a communication plan to support implementation. The committee will provide a preliminary report and recommendations by June 15. A final report will be due by Sept. 30. “This initiative will help us rethink and reshape our public safety in our schools and provide the best social and mental health support for our students,” Elrich said in a press release on Wednesday.

 Isabelle Clark Jones Mrs. Jones passed from this life early Tuesday morning at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. The widow of Leonard Bob Jones who died Tuesday, December 23, 1980, she was born in McNairy County to the late Jesse Arthur Clark and Susie Ann Doles Clark. She spent her early life in Pocahontas moving to Bolivar in 1959. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Stephan Hall; two sisters, Lena Doles and Ruby Kirk; and three brothers, Will, Travis and Harmon Clark. She was united in marriage to Mr. Jones on September 8, 1951 and worked as a CNA at Brint’s Nursing Home in Bolivar for many years. A member of Oak Grove Independent Methodist Church, she enjoyed sewing, fishing, her cats, gardening and being outside. She especially loved being around her family and other people.

Renovated Vintage Trailer To Home Kamas Valley History Museum

Listen to this report as it aired on KPCW, 91.7 Kate Wynn is the secretary of the group. She said they bought the trailer with money they raised during their Labor Day yard sale. Literally, we took a handful of dollar bills and paid for the trailer, Wynn said. Literally some singles because that was how people paid us. The trailer is already gutted; the group will add floors, stands and uprights for displays, and they’ll add a ramp to make it handicap accessible. They expect to finish by Memorial Day weekend. Wynn said she hopes to even make the outside of the trailer a historical homage to the Kamas Valley.
