TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Bryce Hubbart struck out 12 batters and allowed just two hits Saturday, but No. 20 Florida State (22-16) could not get the bats going in a 3-0 loss to Troy (21-20) at Dick Howser Stadium. Nic Nolan’s solo home run in the sixth inning broke up Hubbart’s perfect game and proved to be the winning run. Hubbart (5-3) struck out two batters in each of the first five innings and one each in the sixth and seventh. A leadoff double in the seventh inning, followed by a balk and strikeout, ended Hubbart’s day. Logan Cerny scored on an error to double the score against Hunter Perdue in the seventh. Troy’s third run came in the ninth inning after Cerny doubled, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a passed ball.

April 30, 2021 ⚾: Noles Win Pitching Duel vs. Troy TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Pitchers Parker Messick and Jack Anderson combined to allow just two runs in No. 20 Florida State’s (22-15) 3-2 win against Troy (20-20) Friday night at Dick Howser Stadium. Messick (5-2) won his third consecutive start, working around a career-high nine hits with nine strikeouts, while Anderson earned his first career save with 2.2 innings of relief. Elijah Cabell hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning that gave FSU a 3-0 lead and proved to be the winning runs. Cabell has a home run in three consecutive games and a career-high 11 on the season.

⚾: #20 Noles Welcome Troy to Howser

FSU: RHP Conor Grady (4-2, 4.14 ERA) vs. TU: RHP Bay Witcher (4-2, 4.53 ERA) The Seminoles will throw the same rotation for the ninth consecutive weekend. Parker Messick, the Atlantic Coast Conference leader in earned run average at 2.41, has won two consecutive starts and is second in the league with 82 strikeouts. The redshirt freshman allowed just three hits over 6.0 innings in FSU’s 9-0 shutout last week at Georgia Tech. Bryce Hubbart has also won his past two starts and leads the Noles with five victories on the year. Hubbart ranks in the Top 10 in the ACC in ERA, opponent batting average and strikeouts.

⚾: Long Ball Powers Noles Past Hatters

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – No. 20 Florida State (21-15) hit four home runs in a 9-5 win over Stetson (22-15) Tuesday at Dick Howser Stadium. Eight of the Seminoles nine runs came via home run, while Tyler Ahearn (1-1) provided a pair of strong innings out of the bullpen in the win. Catcher Mat Nelson, the nation’s leader in home runs and RBI, hit his 19 th of the season in the first inning. Nelson’s 19 home runs are the most for a Seminole in 12 years and four more than any other player in the country. Nander De Sedas, Elijah Cabell and Robby Martin added multi-run homers later in the game. For the year, those four have combined to hit 45 home runs.

April 26, 2021 ⚾: Mat Nelson Named ACC Player of the Week TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Third-year sophomore Mat Nelson, the national leader in home runs and runs batted in, was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week Monday. The Seminole catcher hit three home runs, a pair of doubles, had three walks and five runs batted in in FSU’s series win at Georgia Tech. Nelson, from Largo, Florida, hit a home run in each game of the series against the Yellow Jackets and has a home run in seven of his past eight ACC games. Nelson leads the country with 18 home runs and 53 runs batted in. His 18 home runs are the most for a Seminole in the BBCOR bat era (since 2011) and he needed just 33 games played to reach 18 home runs, the second-quickest in FSU history.
