Derry Township Police: Driver in deadly March 3 pedestrian crash in Hershey charged with careless driving

Updated: 4:40 PM EDT April 23, 2021 HERSHEY, Pa. The driver involved in a March 3 crash that killed a pedestrian in Derry Township will be charged with careless driving resulting in an unintentional death, but will avoid the more serious charge of homicide by vehicle, Derry Township Police said Friday. Michelle Walls, of Hershey, was driving a GMC Yukon SUV that struck and killed 65-year-old Karl Piasecki as he crossed West Chocolate Avenue at about 7:30 a.m. on March 3, police say. An investigation determined Piasecki was lawfully within the crosswalk when he was struck by Walls, who did not see him as she turned left from Ridge Road.

Body found near sewage pumping station in Dauphin County: Police Updated 5:33 PM; Swatara Township Police said that the employee found the body of a 47-year-old man at the station. Police were dispatched to the station, located in the 1700 block of Highland Street, at 10:12 a.m. The Swatara Police Criminal Investigation Division, the Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office and the Dauphin County Coroner’s Officer are conducting an investigation into the man’s death. Anyone with information is asked to contact Swatara Police Lt. Timothy Shatto at 717-564-2550 or tshatto@swatarapolice.org. Swatara Township Police said at this time there are no specific concerns for the safety of the general public.

They are among 55 defendants named in an amended complaint, filed Friday, that charges that Ty-Rique Riley’s in the prison was caused by “intentional, malicious and/or grossly negligent conduct.” The lawsuit was brought by Riley’s parents in U.S. Middle District Court.

The woman was unconscious from alcohol consumption when Ifill sexually assaulted her. The woman reported the assault to the hospital, but didn’t report it to the police right away because she was embarrassed, the DA’s office said. She ended up reporting it in December 2017, after she learned Ifill had been arrested for raping two women a year after her assault.

Dauphin County Coroner Graham Hetrick couldn’t provide a reason for Kejuan Cooke’s death this week, and is awaiting test results. Officials say Cooke’s cellmate summoned help Tuesday after noticing he was unresponsive in his jail cell. He was pronounced dead Wednesday at a local hospital. There were no obvious signs of trauma, but Hetrick said the young man had medical issues.
