A 19-year-old shouldn’t just die after losing consciousness in his cell. It’s time we listen carefully to the protesters who faithfully have been marching for months and will be out there again at 10 a.m. Saturday, trying to tell the community something is wrong at Dauphin County Prison. Dauphin County Coroner Graham Hetrick couldn’t provide a reason for Kejuan Cooke’s death this week, and is awaiting test results. Officials say Cooke’s cellmate summoned help Tuesday after noticing he was unresponsive in his jail cell. He was pronounced dead Wednesday at a local hospital. There were no obvious signs of trauma, but Hetrick said the young man had medical issues.

Protest planned at Dauphin County prison where at least 22 inmates have died since 2009 Updated Apr 01, 2021; Concerned citizens are planning to protest outside the Dauphin County Prison Saturday morning in the wake of a 19-year-old inmate’s sudden death this week. Kejuan Cooke was pronounced dead at Holy Spirit Hospital after midnight Wednesday after his cellmate found him unresponsive in his cell the night before, county officials said. He had been incarcerated since June on drug possession charges, which violated his parole. Coroner Graham Hetrick told PennLive Thursday that Cooke had an extensive medical history, but he couldn’t say for sure how he died because of pending tests.
