Is Jasiel Correia guilty or not guilty? Take our poll

BOSTON  After the first day of deliberation, there s no verdict yet in the Jasiel Correia corruption and fraud trial. On Tuesday morning, the jurors gathered in Courtroom 1 at Joseph Moakley United States Courthouse and received written copies of instructions from Judge Douglas Woodlock and other pertinent documents to the case, including a list of exhibits. The jurors then left to deliberate, spent about six hours in seclusion, then broke for the day shortly after 4 p.m. The jury is expected to take some time considering the case. Correia is facing 24 counts in all: nine counts of wire fraud pertaining to investments in his SnoOwl app

Boss Hogg, sex toys, dumb defense: shocking moments in Correia trial

Sam Sutter as Boss Hogg Defense attorney Kevin Reddington used a few pop culture references during the course of the trial. He was reprimanded by Judge Douglas Woodlock for referencing the mob movie, Goodfellas, while cross examining alleged co-conspirator Tony Costa. And when questioning the tax preparer from Liberty Tax Services, he suggested they were the ones with the Liberty, Liberty, Lib-erty jingle (they aren t  that s Liberty Mutual insurance). Still, the image of former District Attorney Sam Sutter, who served an abbreviated term as Fall River mayor after the recall of Will Flanagan, as Boss Hogg, the gluttonous character from the Dukes of Hazzard TV show, was particularly striking.

Live updates from the trial of former Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia

BOSTON   Jasiel Correia II was “a mayor of old school corruption” who was happy to find a new illegal revenue stream shaking down marijuana vendors when the money he took from investors in his SnoOwl app company dried up, according to federal prosecutors  closing arguments on Monday.  Not so, argued defense attorney Kevin Reddington, who said his client was dealing with savvy businessmen who invested in the company he started fresh out of college, and that the federal government brought in a “conga line” of questionable witnesses who had much to gain as co-conspirators who were granted immunity or plea deals.

Jasiel Correia trial brings up issues, situations that don t make sense

FALL RIVER  Testimony is finally over in the long-awaited trial of former Mayor Jasiel Correia II, and while the jury still has yet to weigh the evidence, there were more situations revealed last week that have us scratching our heads again. What about all the people who loved Jasiel Correia? On the stand, co-conspirator Hildegar Camara testified that he considered Correia to be like a son, and that after meeting him while he was in high school with his daughter, over the years he tried to mentor him. Joe Macy testified that another of the co-conspirators, Gen Andrade, who ran Correia s political campaigns and even worked as his chief of staff, used to drive him around and feed him. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington described her as mothering Correia. Sure sounds like she loved him.
