DHAKA, May 12, 2021 (BSS) – A court here today sent to jail Junayed Al Habib and Shakhawat Hossain Raji, joint secretary general and assistant secretary general respectively of the now dissolved committee of Hefajat-e-Islam, after end of their remand in separate mayhem cases.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman passed the orders as police produced the accused before the court one after another and pleaded to keep them behind the bars till the conclusion of probe in the cases.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder on May 4 had placed Junayed on total four-day remand in three different cases lodged over Hefajat-e-Islam’s mayhem in May, 2013, and March, 2021.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman issued an order relieving Erfan of charges on Monday. On Feb 18, Dhaka Special Tribunal No. 1 Judge KM Imrul Qayes ordered the acquittal of Erfan in the arms case.
The two orders came after Inspector Muhammad Delwar Hossain of Chawk Bazar Police Station submitted the final reports dropping charges in the two cases on Jan 5.
But Erfan is still behind bars in a separate case: he and four others were recently charged with assaulting a naval officer.
