Two Hefajat leaders sent to jail

DHAKA, May 12, 2021 (BSS) – A court here today sent to jail Junayed Al Habib and Shakhawat Hossain Raji, joint secretary general and assistant secretary general respectively of the now dissolved committee of Hefajat-e-Islam, after end of their remand in separate mayhem cases.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman passed the orders as police produced the accused before the court one after another and pleaded to keep them behind the bars till the conclusion of probe in the cases.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder on May 4 had placed Junayed on total four-day remand in three different cases lodged over Hefajat-e-Islam’s mayhem in May, 2013, and March, 2021.

Hefajat-e-Islam s former joint secretary general Mamunul Haque and its Dhaka city unit s former president Junayed Al Habib were placed on different terms of remand in five cases filed with Paltan Police Station over the 2013 mayhem and the recent violence in Dhaka.
Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder placed Mamunul on a five-day remand in two cases filed with Paltan Police Station over the recent violence in Dhaka centring the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 26 after two investigators produced him before the court with a 17-day remand prayer.

Hefajat-e-Islam last night demanded release of Ulema and religious-minded general people who were arrested over violence by the Islamist organisation in March during demonstrations protesting Indian Prime Minister Narandra Modi s visit to Bangladesh.
A 10-member Hefajat delegation, led by Secretary General of its convening committee Nurul Islam Jihadi, put four-point demand to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan during a meeting with him at his city residence.

NARAYANGANJ, April 30, 2021 (BSS) – Jannat Ara Jharna, the âsecond wifeâ claimed by Hefazat-e-Islam leader Mamunul Haque, toady filed a case against him for allegedly raping her enticing into marriage.
She recorded the rape case with Sonargaon police station in Narayanganj.
Later, she was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for medical check-up, police sources said.
On April 3 last, locals held Hefazat-e-Islam leader Mamunul Haque at the Sonargaon Royal Resort along with Jharna.
According to the case statement, Jharna was forcibly kept at the homes of acquaintances of Mamunul after the resort scandal.

Investigators have identified 313 persons for financing the Hefazat-e-Islam which carried out violence in different places of the country in March this year.
At the same time, they gathered information over transaction of Tk 6 crore in different bank accounts of Hefazat leader Mamunul Haque, said AKM Hafiz Akhter, additional commissioner of Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Tuesday.
“A number of Hefazt leaders including Mamunul Haque and Junayed Al Habib had a meeting in the wedding programme of the son of just-dissolved Hefazat committee’s Amir Junayed Babunagari. In the meeting, they planned to made Babunagari the party Amir removing Allama Shafi,” said Hafiz Akhter.
