eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series Race Preview: GEICO 70 at Talladega
After kicking off the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series with a unique heat racing format on the dirt-covered banks of Bristol Motor Speedway, tonight’s return to racing action (7PM ET, FS1) at Talladega Superspeedway will be a little more familiar. The GEICO 70 returns from last year’s spring slate of Pro Invitational events, bringing back the single race, 70-lap format, with a deep field of NASCAR Cup Series stars set to take part as usual.
Alex Bowman enters Talladega as the defending race winner, having beaten Corey Lajoie to the finish line last year by .037 seconds in a thrilling photo finish. The Illinois Boys Bobby Pierce (#32) and Brandon Shepard brought the Dirt Car series field to green for night #2 of the Speedweeks at Volusia Speedway Park outside Daytona Tuesday. It would be second generation racer (son of the Tall Cool One - Bob Pierce) holding off friend Devin Moran (son of the Million Dollar Man - Donnie Moran) at the conclusion of the 30 lapper.
Pierce thanked the usual crew, family and friends in victory lane in front of the DirtVision.com cameras, then took a moment to wish special love to his Aunt Jen Hawk who d earlier in the day passed away from a brain aneurysm. Hawk, with husband Larry, own Premier Waste Services, one of Bobby s primary sponsors on the racecar. Behind Moran was Hudson O Neil in Maryville s Roger Sellars owned team, Shepard and Darryl Lannigan of Kentucky.
Pruitt Names Kevin Steele Assistant Defensive Coach Tuesday, January 12, 2021 Tennessee head football coach
Jeremy Pruitt announced Tuesday that veteran Southeastern Conference coach Kevin Steele has joined the program as a defensive assistant coach. Steele, a 1981 graduate of the University of Tennessee and former Vols assistant, returns to Rocky Top after serving as the defensive coordinator at Auburn the past five seasons. His units ranked in the top 20 nationally in scoring defense in four out of those five seasons, while producing 12 NFL Draft picks and multiple first-rounders. The 30th Ice Bowl four day weekend concluded Sunday with feature races galore as close to 400 race teams converged upon Talladega Short Track across from the Super Speedway. Maryville racer Jason Welshan put his 604/Crate Late Model back in Victory Lane, like he did last June with the United Championship Racing Alliance. The #01 Hux Motorsports / Savage Racecar Bandit driver pocketed $3,000 for his efforts against 48 other entrants.
Ooltewah s Riley Hickman was 15th whilst defending and two time back to back race winner Jimmy Elliott of Cleveland finished 21st overall.
