Durban - AS PUBLIC Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane prepares to possibly face impeachment, some civil society organisations have said her treatment was not fair and believe that she was âbeing prosecuted by people she was bringing to bookâ.

New Delhi:Â A group of labour, community and civil society organisations from Canada and elsewhere have issued a statement supporting protesting farmers in India.
“These laws were drafted without any consultation with farmers or their representatives, the farmersâ unions. The farmers have consistently opposed these laws, which go against the promises and commitments made to farmers by different governments over several decades,” the statement reads.
Environmentalists warn of oil and gas drilling threat
Enviornmentalists and fisherfolk have joined hands to express their opposition to oil and gas drilling off the coastline saying the ocean should be preserved for fishing, surfing and other recreational activities.
The South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) and the KZN Subsistence Fisherfolk Forum (KZNSFF) have launched a campaign to alert the public to the environmental impact of the government’s decision to allow Sasol and Eni to explore for oil and gas along the provincial coastline.
The NGO’s launched the “No to Oil and Gas drilling Campaign” at six beaches along the KZN coastline this weekend from Durban Beachfront; Ansteys on the Bluff; Cuttings in Merebank and Reunion Park in Isipingo to Umgababa and Umkomaas beaches on the South Coast .

Engen ordered to take responsibility for impact of 2020 explosion

DURBAN - THE National Portfolio Committee on Environment, Forestry and Fisheries has warned Engen to take responsibility for the impact of an explosion at its refinery on the residents living in the area.
The committee, which visited the refinery in Wentworth on Friday, said it will not accept blame shifting by the company. The committee was accompanied by members of the provincial environmental committee on the oversight visit.
The Mercury understands from individuals that were part of the meeting that the national committee had taken a tough stance against the company, demanding it provides answers and take responsibility.
