CEBU CITY – Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes has tested positive for COVID-19.
Cortes said he found out that he was COVID-19 positive after he underwent Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test.
“Because of the symptoms I was feeling, I decided to undergo RT-PCR test,” Cortes said in a Facebook post Monday.
The mayor has been placed under isolation and was monitored for having mild symptoms.
Cortes said services in the city will continue while he is recuperating from the disease.
“Let us continue observing health protocols because we know that the COVID is still very much around,” Cortes said.

+ April 05, 2021 MANDAUE City Mayor Jonas Cortes has tested positive for Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
In his Facebook post, Cortes said he experienced Covid-19 symptoms on April 4, 2021, prompting him to get an RT-PCR test, and the result came out positive on April 5.
Despite him testing positive for the virus, Cortes said the City Government’s services will continue.
He also encouraged the public to continue to follow minimum health protocols. Tabangi ko sa pag-ampo sa labawng makagagahom nga makarecover ta aning mao nga sakit para makabalik na sad ta sa panerbisyo diha ninyo (Please help me pray for my recovery so that I can go back to serving you), he said.
