Palma, 71, received his vaccine through the Project Balik Buhay (PBB) program initiated by the private sector in support of the national Covid-19 vaccination program in Cebu. Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, the Department of Health (DOH) 7 spokesperson, said Palma and the others were able to receive the vaccines from hospitals that had excess stocks.

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma together with Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Midyphil Billones and Palo Archbishop John Du welcomed 100 infants from 19 Archdiocesan parishes into the Christian community. Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus Antonio Rañola also concelebrated the event along with other priests. They (children) are too small to understand the meaning now, but perhaps when they grow old, in connection to the fifth centenary (500 YoC), we remember that they were baptized, Palma said.

Mandaue City mayor catches COVID

Published April 6, 2021, 3:30 PM CEBU CITY – Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes has tested positive for COVID-19. Cortes said he found out that he was COVID-19 positive after he underwent Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test. “Because of the symptoms I was feeling, I decided to undergo RT-PCR test,” Cortes said in a Facebook post Monday. The mayor has been placed under isolation and was monitored for having mild symptoms. Cortes said services in the city will continue while he is recuperating from the disease. “Let us continue observing health protocols because we know that the COVID is still very much around,” Cortes said.
