Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma tests positive for COVID-19

Joseph Tan, spokesperson of the archdiocese, said the archbishop’s RT-PCR test results were released last night. The archbishop, who would be 71 years old next month, remains in stable condition and is currently under medical care at the Perpetual Succour Hospital, he added. “The people who have been in close contact with the Archbishop have also been informed about the matter, said Tan, who also asked for prayers for the church official’s steady and speedy recovery. Palma hospitalized for Covid-19

February 19, 2021 CEBU Archbishop Jose Palma was admitted to a hospital in Cebu City on Thursday night, Feb. 18, 2021, after he tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). Monsignor Joseph Tan, Archdiocese of Cebu spokesperson, said Friday, Feb. 19, that Palma remained in stable condition. Before he underwent a swab test, the prelate experienced fatigue and mild cough. “Let us all pray for his steady and speedy recovery,” Tan said. Palma celebrated a mass for Ash Wednesday inside the Archbishop’s Palace on Wednesday, Feb. 17, but only the members of his household and Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus Antonio Rañola attended. Tan said Rañola has also been hospitalized. The result of his swab test is expected to be released on Saturday, Feb. 20.
