South Bend Police were called to the intersection just before 9 p.m. for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Austin with gunshot wounds. They were unable to resuscitate Austin and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The CMHU interviewed those involved in the incident, but no arrests have been made, reports said. Homicide investigation leads to battery charge in unrelated incident at Roseland pub

SOUTH BEND — A St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit investigation into a Thursday homicide on Dunham Street has led to battery charges against a South Bend man in an unrelated incident. Kenneth Dogan, 41, was charged with battery by means of a deadly weapon and invasion of privacy on Monday after police say he hit his ex-girlfriend s cousin in the head with a glass bottle at Cheers Pub in Roseland.  Court documents say Dogan s ex-girlfriend was celebrating her birthday at the bar on Thursday and posted videos of herself at the bar on social media. Dogan saw the videos and went to the bar and confronted the woman, court documents said. As Dogan became aggressive with his ex-girlfriend, her cousin attempted to defender her. During the scuffle, Dogan hit the man in the head with a glass bottle, court documents said.

Woman killed in Thursday morning shooting in South Bend

SOUTH BEND — A 28-year-old woman was killed early Thursday morning in an apparent shooting. Around 3 a.m., officers heard gunshots coming from the area of West Dunham Street. Officers were then notified of a crowd gathering at the intersection of Arnold and Dunham streets. At the location, police were directed to a woman who had reportedly been shot inside a house in the 1200 block of West Dunham Street, according to the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit. The victim, 28-year-old Lateisha Burnett, of South Bend, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second female inside the residence told officers she had been struck by gunfire and she was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
