COLONIAL HEIGHTS Students in Colonial Heights will continue to learn remotely for the first week of the second semester following the school division s winter break, from January 4 through 8. Students will be allowed to return to in-person school beginning Jan. 11.
The school division cited an, abundance of caution regarding the COVID-19 pandemic as the rationale for the decision. Colonial Heights Public Schools has limited students to remote learning since the week prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.
The school division made the decision in advance of Christmas, and made mention of the holiday, and its potential to spread COVID-19 during large, family gatherings, in its announcement of the decision on Friday afternoon.

ETTRICK While the COVID-19 pandemic may have forced college students to forego coveted opportunities to study abroad, Virginia State University is partnering with an international organization to replicate the international experience here at home, virtually, the school announced on Thursday.
VSU announced the creation of its Virtual Engagement Initiative, a program that incorporates some of the experience of studying abroad into the curriculum in VSU classes to, continue students global engagement. The program has been developed with Barcelona Study Abroad Experience, an organization that works with American colleges to facilitate student experiences in Spain.
“COVID-19 has created a greater need for a globally prepared virtual workforce, Dr. Maxine Sample, VSU s director of international education, said in a press release. Virtual global learning means VSU can continue its strategic effort to internationalize students’ academic experiences.”
