ANN ARBOR, MI – In their first full semester during the COVID-19 pandemic, college students reported their highest levels of depression and anxiety of any prior semester, a University of Michigan study finds.
The UM Healthy Minds Study, an annual web-based survey looking at mental health and service utilization among undergraduate and graduate students, found that 47% of respondents screened positive for clinically significant symptoms of depression and/or anxiety – up from 44% last year and the highest since the survey started in 2007.

Three people were found dead in a suspected murder-suicide that police say started as a dispute over shoveling snow on a quiet Pennsylvania street. (Rachel Nunes/Patch)
PLAINS TOWNSHIP, PA Bergh Street doesn t normally get too much attention. Just a couple blocks long and in the corner of a neighborhood north of Wilkes-Barre bordering a wooded area, residents there say it s a quiet street where not a lot goes on.
That all changed on Monday morning, when much of the eastern United States was digging out of a major snowstorm.
A neighbor dispute over shoveling snow ended with the deaths of three people: James Goy; his wife, Lisa Goy, and Jeffrey Spaide, authorities in Luzerne County have said. Police and prosecutors have said Spaide fatally shot the Goys after the couple was shoveling snow off of their property and onto his. Spaide then shot himself to death while inside his own home as police arrived, authorities said.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf (PACast)
HARRISBURG, PA Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf on Wednesday proposed a significant hike in the state income tax but asserted that lower-wage earners would be exempt from paying it.
In unveiling his proposed 2021-22 state budget, Wolf recommended raising the state s personal income tax from 3.07 percent to 4.49 percent. But he contended that taxes actually would decrease or stay the same for about two-thirds of state residents and the increase would impact only the highest wage earners. This budget makes major changes to our tax system, Wolf said in an address delivered by video to the state Legislature because of the coronavirus outbreak. It actually reduces the tax burden on Pennsylvania families earning $84,000 or less. It also proposes a major tax reduction for Pennsylvania businesses.
