MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - For the second year, the reestablished Shelby County Community Gardens got a boom in gardeners, thanks to the pandemic.
The community gardens were reestablished by Mayor Lee Harris in 2020 and Friday the 2021 planting season kicked off.
Itâs an initiative to provide free space for residents to grow their own food and nurture a healthy lifestyle.
Last year, the gardens started out with about 80 gardeners and now all the plots are full with 430 gardeners.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Police say a reckless driver nearly hit multiple officers overnight as they tried to stop his car, and one officer ended up in the hospital.
It started with a report of a suspicious vehicle near Sycamore View Road and Macon Cove. Police say several officers saw the suspect, Christophe Woodard, driving erratic with the driver’s side door open.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Tennessee reported 101 more COVID-19 deaths Thursday and 1,777 new cases.
There are just more than 36,000 active cases across the state, according to data from the Tennessee Department of Health.
The total COVID-19 case count for Tennessee is 717,583 as of January 28, 2021 including 9,417 deaths, 1,857 current hospitalizations and 672,110 are inactive/recovered.
