Tacirua resident Nileshni Lata, 29, said as a mother of two, having no water posed a lot of problems. “Apart from needing water for the usual needs like washing, cooking and bathing, my mother-in-law is also a kidney patient and she needs to go to the toilet frequently,” she said.

Timaima Sokia of Naveiwakau, Nasinu, said she had to fetch water from a relative’s house in Laqere for her household needs. Water Authority of Fiji chief operating officer Seru Soderberg said the cause of water supply disruptions was a massive landslide at the inlet to the Wainibuku Reservoir last Sunday. He said it dislocated the 600mm and 450mm pipelines “causing significant damage and will take some time to safely repair”.
